The Chipping Barnet Town Team Timeline
1997 – The Barnet Society lobbied the Council to plant trees up Barnet Hill and along the High Street. ‘Lee’s Trees’ resulted in 1999 and flourished on the hill, but the project stalled.
2008 – Two local residents met Council officers and agreed to encourage the local community, businesses and retailers to help revitalize Chipping Barnet High Street.
2012 – The Barnet Society, Hadley Residents Association, Spaces, Barnet Residents Association and Friends of Barnet Market heard that the Mayor of London was inviting bids for town centre improvements form the Outer London Fund (OLF).
Together with the Council, Theresa Villiers MP and other interested parties, the Chipping Barnet Town Centre Strategy Board was formed to create and Action Plan and bid. This was successful.
2013 – The Action Plan was formally adopted and became the Chipping Barnet Town Centre Strategy. The Board was renamed as the Town Team.
